About The Rescue Project
About The Rescue Project
Our Story
My name is Charles Buurma, and The Rescue Project was born out of lived experience—not theory.
I was placed into foster care at just one year old and was later adopted at the age of four. I journeyed through sexual violation, emotional abuse, and trauma. I know firsthand what it means to be vulnerable, alone, and full of fear. Growing up I faced loneliness, fear, depression, suicide, and addictions. But, God has a way of redeeming our lives and our stories. And that is what he did for me. When all looked hopeless, he shone through. That early chapter of my life shaped everything that followed—my faith, my values, and my deep conviction that every human life matters, especially when it is most fragile.
Today, I am a husband and a father of three. I run several businesses, but more importantly, I am committed to building a culture that protects children, strengthens families, and speaks truth with compassion. The Rescue Project exists because I believe that silence in the face of injustice is not an option—and that love must be active, not abstract.
Why The Rescue Project Exists
The Rescue Project exists to defend life, encourage families, and restore hope through the love of God in a culture that often treats children as disposable and parenthood as a burden.
We believe that every human life—born and unborn—is created in the image of God with dignity, purpose, and immeasurable value. We also recognize that many people facing unexpected pregnancies are scared, unsupported, and overwhelmed. Our response is not condemnation, but truth paired with practical love.
The Rescue Project seeks to stand in the gap by:
- Advocating for the unborn with clarity and conviction
- Encourage mothers and fathers facing unexpected or crisis pregnancies
- Educating the public on the moral, scientific, and spiritual realities surrounding abortion and related issues
- Encouraging adoption, fostering, and family-based solutions
- Rebuilding a culture that honors children rather than sacrifices them
At its core, The Rescue Project is about rescue in every sense of the word—rescuing souls, rescuing lives, rescuing families, and rescuing truth from confusion.
Our Vision for 2026
By 2026, we envision The Rescue Project becoming a recognized and trusted voice for life in Canada, with tangible impact at both the local and national level.
Our goals include:
- Establishing The Rescue Project as a formally structured organization with a strong governing foundation
- Expanding educational outreach through podcasts, speaking engagements, written resources, and media
- Building partnerships with churches, families, and like-minded organizations across the country
- Developing direct support pathways for families facing unexpected pregnancies
- Creating sustainable funding models to ensure long-term impact and independence
Most importantly, we hope to see lives saved, families strengthened, and hearts changed—not through coercion or politics alone, but through the gospel of Jesus Christ, courage, compassion, and truth.
An Invitation
The Rescue Project is not just an organization—it is a movement of ordinary people choosing to act with extraordinary love.
Whether you are here to learn, to support, to ask hard questions, or to stand alongside us, you are welcome. Together, we can build a future where every child is protected, every parent is supported, and every life is valued.
We can see the day where abortion is no longer a thought on the minds of Canadians.
